The FERN
(Far East Regional Network) meeting was
held on 26th April 2009 at
London, UK and was attended by IET local
network from Brunei, China, Hong Kong,
Malaysia, Japan, Singapore and IET
staff.
The FERN chairman (Jolly Wong - IET Hong
Kong Network) opened the welcoming
address for the first FERN face-to-face
meeting for year 2009. He mentioned
that the aims and objective of the FERN
shall not be confused with the Global
Operations Board that comprises of five
regions.

This was
further clarified by Dr. N F Chin,
Chairman of Global Operations Board.
The aims and objectives of the FERN is
to enhance and strengthen the IET local
network within the Far Eastern regions
in terms of knowledge sharing;
coordination of activities within the
regions such as technical talks, visits,
legislations & regulations with local
authority bodies, conferences;
assistance among the local networks in
terms of membership drives and supports.
Each local network gave a brief summary
of their activities that was held and
ongoing within their network and the
plan for year 2009 session.
Chairman of IET Brunei Network briefed
on the activities for year 2009 and
presented a copy of the IET Brunei
Strategy Plan 2008-2009 document to FERN
Chairman and IET staff.
The FERN chairman requested all the
local network to submit their 6-12 month
activities plan for year 2009 such that
he can coordinate among the local
networks for join activities and to
avoid duplication.
The FERN Chairman advised that all the
local networks shall at least held a one
face-to-face meeting each year in order
to know each other better that enhance
the networking cooperation within the
regions. The budget for such meeting
shall be included in the local network
annual budget proposal. For this year
it will be budgeted under the project. |
