IET Members visit Wehaya Workshop, Miri

Members from the IET Brunei Branch made a technical visit to Wehaya in Miri on 12/06/2009. The visit started with a HSE briefing and a presentation on the Company history and profile by Paul Ganeshwaran, Electrical Department Head of the service centre.

Found in 1990, Wehaya is an established engineering and service provider in this region with ISO 9001 accreditation. They have the capability to deliver engineering products, and in particular maintenance services. According to their profile they have been involved in the international projects and maintenance services in countries as far as East Nigeria and China. Their targeted clients include industries such as oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical, waste treatment and other industries. It was noted that the Company in Miri has about 37 employees working in the workshop service centre. On top of that, there are about 150 staffs engaged in offshore maintenance work activities.

The presentation was followed by workshop tour, and was guided by the workshop floor manager and their technical specialists. The workshop service facility is accredited with International Electrotechnical Commission Scheme (IECEX) Certificates of Conformity to conduct and to overhaul of EX equipment for use in explosive atmosphere for oil and gas industry. During the visit, IET members have the first hand experience to acquaint themselves with workshop facilities such as motor test bay, EX d pressure test, measuring tools, baking process, motor rewinding and electric tests.
