Lecturers and students from vocational schools and St Andrew’s school

IET Brunei organized a technical talk on Solid State (LED) Lighting and its Sustainable Development. The talk was delivered by Professor Chua Soo Jin who is the Professor of Electrical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

The talk focused on the development of high brightness and white light LEDs for illumination applications and areas for technological improvements. One direction the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering in collaboration with the National University of Singapore has under taken is the direct generation of white light without the use of phosphors. As cost is still an issue for widespread adoption of LED luminaires, new development that can replace the existing materials is being explored.

The talk was divided into the morning session was attended by 100 persons from the public, Ministry of Defence, Department of Electrical Services, Public Works Department, Consultants, Department of Technical Education and the afternoon session was attended by 110 lecturers and students from vocational schools and St Andrew’s school.
