Kuala Belait - Dr William Voon and Mr Terry D Jayasuriya jointly spoke on behalf of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Brunei Darussalam Network to a group of upper secondary students from St John’s School in Kuala Belait recently. In his opening remarks, the Principal Mr Koh Hong Puah expressed his thanks to the speakers for delivering the talk entitled
“Science and Technology: What is there for me?”.
The speakers touched on the subject on the importance of the energy industry to underpin the need to appreciate the fundamental of the sciences. This is crucial for technology to be effectively deployed in the challenging demands of industry and commerce. It was an interactive session, with many everyday applications that the students were able to easily relate to. The students were encouraged to apply their basic scientific knowledge in understanding the applications of various technologies that they often see, hear or read about. There was also an informal interaction with the students as they were interested to know about different careers they could pursue in the various fields of the Sciences; engineering, IT and medicine. The speakers encouraged the students to set high goals, pursue their ambitions and to remain focus, as it would help motivate them in their life-long pursuit of acquiring knowledge.
The Senior Master, Mr Ramachandran in his closing remarks thanked the speakers for the encouraging and inspirational talk and presented certificates of appreciation to the speakers. The IET Brunei Darussalam Network aspires to bring awareness of science and technology to the local student community, and promoting engineering as a career worthwhile pursuing. |
